Known for their popular velvet slippers that were seen on and off the runway at the Arise Magazine Fashion Week 2011 by Designers Wale Adeyemi, Alexander Amosu and Stylist Arieta Mujay, Haus of Hercules a brand which specializes in hand made leather and ankara goods is steadily becoming a favorite amongst fashion lovers. With their recently released lookbook, it is evident the brains behind the brand have alot in the works. SHF had a little chat… read on.
When was HOH officially launched?
Haus of Hercules was registered and started rolling out services in product shoe design and merchandising in November 2010. We have never really had a proper launch, I guess that would fall into place in due time. Its just been more of a work, work & more work for us.
1st breakthrough recognition?
Using the word breakthrough is kinda tricky. Well, from our very 1st customer, our 1st facebook like, to people who have nice things to say or give words of constructive criticism, all these we believe have contributed in pushing the brand to the forefront. To us, that’s what propels us and keeps us going.
Inspiration behind the brand?
Cliche i know, but i have always had a knack for fashion, colours, and the glossy pop-culture magazines from as far back as my formative years as a kid. The name “HERCULES” was my late dad’s nickname, he was and will always be my role model. *sniff sniff*.
Inspiration behind the EKOpolitan memoirs?
Well, I always knew at the back of my mind, that our 1st lookbook had to tell a story. We know the city of Lagos is a fashion hub where people love to express themselves, so we decided to come up with a word, which really came as a result of the words ‘Metropolitan’ & ‘cosmopolitan’. So we decided to switch things up, to fit Lagos- and use the indigenious word - ‘EKO’-Politan. Tada! There you have it.
Where do you see the HOH brand in the next 5 years?
Its a good question, but its funny that i personally never premeditate things. Yes, we set goals, we strive to achieve them, once they are met, we set new ones, not forgetting to make corrections as we forge ahead. But as for what HOH will be in 5 years, we can’t really give a clear picture. Though if we must say this, hopefully the brand will be a force to reckon with in the fashion industry, putting smiles on faces through our creativity… Literally.
