Becks Buki- Hair and Make-up Artist

As much as I love fashion editorials, I’m also a huge fan of beauty editorials. With the latter, the focus is more on the hair, makeup and tone the photographer has set for the story.  A beauty story can often be harder to pull of in comparison to a fashion editorial because with the former, everything is laid bare and open.  In contrast, the quality of some fashion stories are often enhanced by using  lavish locations, energetic movement, fabulous clothes and so on.  However beauty stories do not have these luxuries or any gimmicks to deceive or sway the viewer’s mind.  In a beauty story, one can trace the movement of the make-up artist’s brush, see how every strand of hair has been combed- every little detail on the page can be seen in its full glory.

I’m lucky enough to have made good friends with fellow creatives in the industry.  And one of them in particular is London-based, hair and make-up artist (aka Buki Akinsaya).

Becks Buki has over 10 years experience working in the hair and make-up industry.  She has worked for a range of reputable clients like- Levi’s, MTV Trax, Arise, River Island and Swarovski.

She recently did a fabulous beauty story called, ‘Black Orchid Divas’ which I must share with all of you.  What I love about this story is the striking simplicity of  the shots; beauty stories are often ‘pimped up’ by using them as a vehicle  to push accessories on the public like jewellery and bags- but here is a beauty story that does what it says on the tin.
