“Black Allure” – Vogue Italia’s February 2011 Editorial

Vogue Italia’s February 2011 editorial ‘Black Allure” conjures nostalgia for smoke filled salons with lots of jazz – Josephine Baker crooning in the background, glamorous women dressed to the nines holding cigars, wearing a knowing smile, all looking incredibly strong, feminine,  self assured and very sexy.

The editorial, as segregrational as the title suggests, features an all black cast of names and faces we have come to know, love and respect in the modelling industry Ajak Deng, Arlenis Sosa Peña, Chanel Iman, Georgie Baddiel, Jourdan Dunn, Joan Smalls, Kinee Diouf, Lais Ribeiro, Melodie Monrose, Mia Aminata Niaria, Rose Cordero and Sessilee Lopez.

Edward Enninful delivers as usual with styling that’s a fantastic nod to the Harlem Renaissance movement circa 1920′s, captured through the lens of Emma Summerton.

SHF loves all the elements – turbans, hats, corsages, flapper fringe details,  lots of colour, mouthwatering big bold accessories, strong defined make up and hair styles reminiscent of the era – finger waves,  chignons, corn rows! BEAUTIFUL!
