The name House of Versatile Styles is an interesting name for a label. What inspired such a name?
Thank You! House of Versatile Styles was inspired by my style of design. I found myself designing different styles with many ideas and inspiration behind it. Each collection I designed was very versatile so I named the line “House of Versatile Styles”.
How old is House of Versatile Styles?
Four.
Tell us about your new collection.
The new collection is very feminine, effortless, versatile, modern couture pieces and silhouettes. Extra time was put into the construction because I believe as a designer it’s important to give my consumers the finest workmanship and quality. The new collection includes pieces that can go from day to night. We have jumpsuits, fitted couture jackets, a variety of cocktail dresses and much more. For fabric selection, I went with my favourite fabrics this season which are satin lame, silk chiffon and lace.
What inspired the new collection?
I am a big fan of colours so you will always see that in my work. The design process was an on going process, I started designing the collection October of 2009 and showcased May this year at the Seattle Fashion Week.
Do you have any fashion or trade shows coming up soon? Where?
Yes. We are currently in talks with some Fashion Weeks between the U.S and Canada. We should have our fall showcase announcement very soon.
What do you think about the African Fashion Week platform?
I think it’s a brilliant platform for African designers (especially Africa based designers) to showcase. I am always blown away when I see the footage. There is talent in Africa and the organizers/producers of Africa Fashion Week are doing an excellent job showcasing African designers to the world.
What role do you feel AFW is playing in the emerging African Fashion Industry?
I do not know too much about the show but from the little I am aware of , it definitely gives the much needed exposure.
What do you think about the next generation of fashion designers in Africa? Is the industry big enough to support and accommodate them?
Beautiful things are happening right now and it can’t go down but go up. What’s beautiful will never be denied. I believe if you’re hard working and have persistence you will eventually get to where you want to be.
HVS is on SHF’s radar as a design label to watch out for. How do you intend to/how are you making an impact on the fashion industry?
Wow! I am honored to be on SHF‘s radar. I can only continue to work towards perfecting my craft. Design is an on going process. I hope that giving 100% makes an impact.
Do you plan to take part in a future edition of AFW?
Yes. That would be great. I look forward to that someday soon.
What does HVS aim to contribute to the industry in the next five years?
HVS aims to contribute a legacy.
What is your advice for up and coming fashion designers?
Keep working towards perfecting your craft. You never know it all and hard work will pay off.
Who is the HVS woman?
I would like to say I design for every woman. HVS is versatile, sexy and eclectic clothing which I believe everyone woman should be.
Where do you see HVS 5 years from now?
5 years! I won’t say I don’t mind over 100 retailers worldwide and several flagship stores or perhaps being picked up by Nordstrom. Wherever God puts HVS is fine with me.
Where can we shop the HVS Autumn Winter Collection?
HVS is available online and in stores in Houston and Atlanta. We recently picked up a new retailer in Abuja, Nigeria – the James Lully Store. For online, SmashingDarling.com and UStrendy.com. We look forward to adding more retailers to the list soon
