Fashion Lounge is BACK with a New Venue and a New Date!

Fashion Lounge, Fashion Industry Networking party is back with a Bang! The event takes place on Thursday 6th October at the newly refurbished Ember Creek 32 Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.

The event which launched in July at Chrome has already been featured on MTV BASE,STV AND AIT, and in publications such as Bella Naija, Sleek weekly, Fab magazine online etc. They have had the likes of multi award winning singer Tiwa Savage and Fashion editor of Genevieve Magazine and Renowned Fashion Designer Mai Atafo grace the event. The aim of the event is to create exposure for new comers as well as provide an atmosphere for networking. Invited guests include make up artists, designers, magazines, models, photographers, bloggers and more. The monthly event which is the first of its kind, sets to introduce something new each month! Join the GREY team and Oseyi Etomi for a pop up show as they showcase 80 beautiful dresses designed by Oseyi Etomi for the Grey brand,a menswear collection off the runway ( Music Meets Runway ) and 50 limited ankara shorts for men on the 28th of August 2011 at the African Artist Foundation. August 13th 2011, the flagship store of Deola Sagoe came alive as fashion lovers both young and old took out time to officially welcome Teni, Aba and Tiwa Sagoe - daughters of veteran fashion designer, Deola Sagoe into the industry. Their debut collection Rampage is fun, flirty and like they say “For those who like to stay ahead of the fashion curve”. It was a well thought out collection and we have our favorites at SHF – just like you! Below are our top five looks for the night and why we love them (in no particular order) and from SHF we say….. Welcome aboard Sagoe ladies!

What does it take to hold a successful, entertaining Fashion tradeshow event?

After attending the BREAD & BUTTER, BERLIN (BBB) tradeshow event on 7th July, which was held at the historic airport- Tempelhof, I feel like I have some insight into answering this question. In no way is my list of below suggestions exclusive, my observations were made having spent 4 hours walking around the airport and afterwards I still felt like I had so much to see and learn.

Use interesting and creative ways to hand out freebies that promote your event to the public

On this conveyor belt lay magazines and books that exclusively told you about the history of the brand, the exhibitors and so on. On request, they were put into BBB marked cotton bag for you to carry away.

Think outside the box and showcase brands that use innovative ways to present their goods and themselves as a ‘brand’

If every brand had shown their pieces by simply exhibiting them on a rail, I would have died of boredom, brands like the below who took a more ‘hands on’ approach to exhibiting their pieces, gave a real buzz to the day.

Use Information and Locator points

Due to the vast size of this location, the various strategic information and locator points were a god-send.

Place toilet signs in the venue that can be easily seen and located, also, remember the disabled.

Free drinks at an event never gets old

Don’t forget the kids

I thought it was quite clever to have these swings outside, that way mothers didn’t feel left out and could entertain their children.

In Search Of The Model Of Africa….

On the 18^th of June 2011, the organizers of Model Of Africa competition will provide a platform for aspiring male models with the right qualities to compete for the Model Of Africa title. The winner stands a chance to represent Africa with winners from other parts of the world at the Mister International Competition in Singapore.

The competition aims to serve as a platform that will help catapult the careers of young aspiring models. It will also provide the contestants with opportunities to perfect their modelling skills; build great portfolios by working with some of the best photographers, designers, and stylists in the industry; and ultimately create great industry networking opportunities for them. Sponsoring designers and official fashion retailers for the event include Mai Atafo Inspired, Okunoren Twins, David Wej, Etcetera and B-Easy. Styling by Tayo Shonekan of Aimas, and Blush Beauty is the official beauty brand.

Le Petit Marche – The Buy Nigerian Edition

The Le Petit Marche (LPM) team has worked tirelessly since inception to create a unique shopping environment for consumers and retailers. LPM sundays are usually very interactive and allow new entrants to the Nigerian fashion scene generate the much required buzz for their growing brand. This modern retail approach is fast becoming de rigeur in the world of fashion and has propelled LPM into the limelight as a shopping experience and monthly event that all fashionista’s want to see and be seen at.

The December edition of LPM is tagged ‘The Buy Nigerian Edition’. ‘Buy Nigerian’ is a Style House Files initiative aimed at encouraging consumer culture in Nigeria as well as supporting locally made goods. It is the notion that eventually, enough income can be generated locally to boost and support the Nigerian fashion industry and even the economy.

As much as we all love to see fashionista’s and stylista’s looking good on the coloured carpets, SHF reiterates that LPM is a shopping event not just a networking/social event hence ‘Buy Nigerian’ so kindly come and support the fashion industry by making a minimum of one purchase each on sunday. LPM December Highlights

A spectacular fashion show exhibiting collections from up to 12 of Nigeria’s emerging designers themed “The Style / Buy Nigeria Edition”. LPM is teaming up with the fabulous Make-up artist Ms. Lola Maja(CEO Sacred Lashes) and her team, MUD Cosmetics, B natural spa to provide products and services required to ensure each designer’s vision is achieved. Our resident stylist Miss Bolaji Animashaun will also be available for any consultation services on styling needed by each designer.

LPM Documentary featuring the 12 designers and a behind the scenes take on the making of LPM Buy Nigerian Edition. From model casting, to viewing designers collections, fittings, all preparations before the day and finally the actual fashion show. 12 Designers, 1 Runway, 1 Market, 1 Movement.

LPM VIP Goodie bags will be given to VIP guests with a fantastic selection of gifts from LPM vendors as well as an early bird preview of all the items on sale by the vendors and the chance to grab them before the general public. Each VIP will get front row seats to the fashion show.

On the 2nd of Dec, 6 designers decided to get together to create a Pre-Christmas Shopping Event in the cozy Marylebone boutique hotel. Beautifully scented candles, wine and canapes served to soft jazz music – an event not to have been missed despite the Arctic temperatures outside.

The six designers who got together were Eva Sonaike, Bijoux, Tablet, Anisa, Alex Smith and Eki Orleans ; very distinct designers in their own way and talent, making the event all the more desirable.

Eva Sonaike specialises in traditional African and African-inspired textiles and showcased her collection of cushions, bags and notebooks.

Bijoux, Anisa and Alex Smith all presented their interpretation of stunning and timeless jewellery pieces.

Tablet presented her collection of loose-cut styles, compared to the likes of Nicole Fahri.

And Eki Orleans, with her array of beautiful and vibrant silk signature dresses was not to be missed.

There was a nice flow of people coming through the doors and everyone stocked up on Christmas gifts as well as indulged themselves in the wine and nibbles. Just before 9:30 , there was a real buzz around the Eki Orleans stand due to a raffle draw with everyone rushing to buy their tickets to win a dress. Anisa, one of the exhibitors won herself the Nina dress for just £2 – what a bargain!!!

All designers supported a charity of their choice. Eki Orleans chose to work with Noella Coursaris, a model turned entrepreneur who now runs a charity in Congo and was recently on CNN talking about the great works of her charity – Georges Malaika Foundation. Thanks to everyone who purchased gifts at the event, as a percentage of each sale went to everyone’s charity.

SHF Fresher Alert – AGLAIA

SHF stumbled on something quite interesting and can’t help but share. We came across two budding Nigerian designers,Funke(21) and Mariam(17) Afolabi. They are the brains behind Aglaia, a label set to break into the Nigerian fashion scene come 21/12/2010 at the Shell Hall, Muson centre, Lagos with a charity show tagged “Gaga for fashion”.

SHF is looking out for Aglaia. They promise to make us go gaga with their debut collection, so for now people let’s just keep our fingers crossed! We urge you to join us as we watch out for Aglaia to see what they have to contribute to the fashion industry.
