As part of our retail focus this month, SHF is waiting with bated breath for the highly anticipated African Fashion Week taking place between June 30, 2010 and July 3, 2010 at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa.
This year, in addition to runway shows, fashion seminars and an awards presentation, the first ever AFI fashion boutique will also be launched in June, 2010. This is great news for everyone; designers will have their collections go straight from catwalk to closet, buyers and press will have a field day and the fashionistas can leave with the latest designs. Collections will be available for purchase after their catwalk shows…everything all under the same roof. Win-win situation for everyone!
On the eve of African Fashion Week itself, the AFI fashion boutique will launch online as a permanent shop specializing in African fashion from across the globe.with collections available immediately after their catwalk showing.
The exquisite collections of 30 designers will feature in 19 runway shows over four fashion-packed days, before an influential audience of international buyers, media, World Cup guests, VIPs and celebrities.
Sakina Msa – officially in South Africa now, Ituen Basi (last year’s Africa Fashion Award winner for Innovative Designs), Soucha, Heni Este-Heijzen and Christie Brown (joint winners of last year’s Emerging Designer Award), Korto Momolu, Laquan Smith, Xuly Bet, Boudoir D’huitres, Mataano, Noir, Qumi Bespoke, Bunmi Koko, Koketso Chiepe, Gloria Wavamunno and Abigail Betz, Thula Sindi, Carducci and Fabiani are some of the designers that will be showing this year.
