Shoes are fast becoming iconic pieces like bags and judging from the eye popping colours, gravity defying heights, elaborate detailing, mouth watering textures and architectural shapes: one thing is for sure – Shoes can not be ignored and have become firmly entrenched as very important in the hierarchy of fashion accessories since they possess the ability to make or break an outfit.
Before shoes took centre stage in the world of fashion, I have been in constant search for the perfect pair of shoes and i am always still searching….. Trust me this is always a serious challenge considering the vast range of shoes out there – beautiful, sculptural, edgy, feminine, interesting and plain old classic! This has always proved an arduous task season after season for a couple of reasons – budget, the perfect fit and finding the perfect fit in the perfect size. It definitely doesn’t makeĀ it easier that i have been blessed by the almighty God with size 41 wide feet which definitely makes being a shoeaholic very difficult even if i wanted to be one. I once burst out crying (to my husband’s amusement) after touring branch after branch of a particular shoe brand’s stores for a certain pair of shoes because they did not have my size and the ones they had in my size simply did not fit. Horror! Horror!
Have you ever noticed that shoes begin to look very ugly once you go beyond size 39? The new shoe trends of the moment dont make size 41 shoes look more appealing, with so many cut out details and lines running from here to there, you find out that the shoes end up creating a widening effect and drawing even more attention to the width of your feet instead of making them look slimmer and more dainty.
My shoe philosophy is simple! Cool, classic and elegant shoes that complement an outfit without necessarily drawing negative attention to the size of my feet and if they happen to have a little bit of edge – Parfait!
Whats your shoe philosphy?
