The winner of Face of Africa’s Season 8 is Lukundo Nalungwe from Zambia. It was a dream come true for the girl whose life has immediately been transformed and her name fast on the way to being stamped in the world and stage of fashion starting with New York Fashion Week.
The event took place at the New Expo Center which is still under construction and a fashion experience was created out of the far from finished venue. The models had been cargoed from all over Africa to the fashion destination of choice on the Continent for the evening – Lagos. They slithered out of their giant cargo boxes and fast unto a runway surrounded by Nigerians with a fail proof sense of dressing for that event.
Production was great but better attention should have been paid to the fashion elements of the production and the production team could have benefitted a great deal if there had been more than one Nigerian on the entire production team.
Fashion Designers from all of Africa were fully represented in the various scenes of the evening. The Nigerian Fashion Industry was represented by 10 Ten of its finest - Tiffany Amber, Jewel By Lisa, Odio Mimonet, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, Zizi Cardow, Kosibah, Frank Oshodi, Momo, Adebayo Jones and Ituen Basi. East and South Africa were represented by John Kaveke and David Thlale respectively. SHF was totally unimpressed by the scene from the supposed spring summer collection from the international designers category and the entire scene could have done with better presentation overall.
The winner was not an easy one to guess as always the models all looked stunning! Lukundo Nalungwe walked away with $50,000, a contract with O models owned by Oluchi Onweagba, a spot on the ramp at Arise African Collective Show at New York Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2010/ 2011 and a $5,000 shopping spree from Zenith Bank. What more can a girl ask for?
Guests were serenaded by award winning D’Banj and Lira to the delight of the entire audience. In all, the event was well attended and a success.
