This S/S 11 season, designers were keen to experiment with age-old artisan techniques like plaiting, weaving and knotting which resulted in pieces that looked beautifully hand-made and rich in history. International designers like Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Gucci, Versace and Dior created a real sense of movement by sending their models shimmying down the catwalk in pieces with tassel and feather detailing. Crochet, macrame and applique added texture to simple shift dresses.
At the LFW Exhibition which was held at Somerset House, I spotted this girl working in the Mark Fast section, wearing one of the designs from his past collections.
Mark Fast is renowned for his innovative knit designs and I have grown to respect him for introducing me to the colourful, sexy direction that knitwear can go. However I have always wondered about how wearable his pieces actually were for the every-day woman. So I was glad to see how additional accessories like an oversized fur gilet, could inject wearability into his often risque outfits.
