Last week, Pitti Immagine, welcomed Nigerian designers Bridget Awosika, Anita Quansah, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, Jewel by Lisa as well as London-based Sudanese designer Omer Asim to Florence, Italy for Pitti W. .
The company, which hosts trade fairs, selected Nigeria as its guest nation for their 10th edition and, in cooperation with Lagos and Fashion Design Week (LFDW), presented the designers’ work to an international audience.
The Pitti website describes Pitti Immagine W. as “a space dedicated to the new names on the international creative and economic scene from emerging nations to stimulate exchange and further mutual knowledge and understanding”. The trade fair gave attendees the opportunity to discover what we’ve known all along; there is an extraordinary amount of talent and innovation coming from Nigeria’s fashion industry and Africa as a whole. The designers, selected by Style House Files Founder Omoyemi Akerele, represented and showed African fashion as more than just a trend – it is here to stay.
