Purple Reign

Balmain

‘…let me guide you to the purple rain’, were the words that Prince crooned in his legendary song, ‘Purple Rain’ and from looking at the autumn/winter 2010 shows; a lot of designers were only too willing to follow Prince’s purple vision.  In this regard, Balmain’s show lead the way, as not only was purple the dominant colour in the collection but the models went down the runway in ensembles that had lashings of Baroque rock n’roll style reminscent of the wardrobe that the 5ft 2 genius wore in the iconic film, ‘Purple Rain’.

Other designers like Duro Olowu, 3:1 Philip Lim, Dries Van Noten and Lola Faturoti also chose to work with the regal colour in their collections, offering us various textured ensembles in different shades of purple.
