SHF favourite Samantha Cole’s talents were raved about by Andrea Danesi on Vogue Italia. – Love! Love! Love! Read on…………
Ultramodern, forward thinking and looking, Victorian and Edwardian couture of the future! Revivification of an Era!
Fashion designer Samantha Cole represents a rebellion against contemporary trends, realizing collections of silhouettes that acknowledge the past but look toward the future. She believes that there are no limits or boundaries in fashion, and follows no rules. It is a visual walk through history, contrasting the different periods in fashion styles, as well as addressing the etiquette of the day.
Samantha takes inspiration from the sumptuosus style of the Victorian era with a contemporary loop.
The bold and bleak colour palette is kind of Noir fantasy aside, whilst the collection packs an impressive visual hit as a whole. Individually, there are some amazing and very wearable pieces. Wide legged, large chequered trousers and the elaborately pleated jacket that are just divine, the collection is a master touch of fabric sculpture, featuring striking silhouettes tailored from silk, cotton, organza and silk taffeta. Delicate fabrics jars when wrought into such strong shapes, challenging perceptions of texture.
Colour is used to maximise the impact of the garments, whilst the effect of shadow created by the “cage” structures, provides the illusion of stitched lines onto the folds of each piece.
She challenges the meaning of design interpreting any different trend, thought, or even mood by deconstructing something giving her own taste.
She aims to be focused on developing her womenswear brand that caters to image conscious, confident, independent discerning women who dare to be different. However, with its darker storyline and monochromatic themes of chess Cole’s work is the aura of something darker, something more fantastical, like a surrealistic gothic fairytale.
She is a designer who has always had a passion and flair for fashion, and who was able to explore and develop this through The London College of Fashion were she graduated. Samantha has worked in the design room of Burberry and showcased at New York Fashion Week 08 where she received an international award for best womenswear designer.
