For all those ladies out there who were teased mercilessly through out their childhood’s for having the misfortune of having ‘four- eyes’- and I was one of them; infact I think I’m still mentally scarred from the ordeal of having my glasses tossed around for ‘fun’ in the playground at school. Well Father Time has been kind to us my dears and now we can finally have the last laugh because this autumn/winter season, many designers sent their models striding down the catwalks confidently in various assortments of reading glasses.
Designers like Prada, Marni, Paul & Joe and Charles Anastase showed us that glasses are a great way to use our impaired vision to make a fabulous fashion statement. Prada was my favourite because the specs in that show reminded me of the ’in your face’ angular-tilting glasses that Samantha Stephens mother, Endora, wore in the cult 60′s sitcom- Bewitched.
Another great factor about this trend is that it can direct how you choose to wear your hair and makeup. Case in point- if you favour the ‘all work and no play’ secretary look, then you can put up your hair in a chic chignon to compliment your classic framed specs. Alternatively, if you want to go down the Marni route and favour a pair of quirky thick black framed glasses, then dabbing on some bold coloured lippy, will make sure that all eyes will be and stay on you when you enter a room.
Whichever way you choose to wear your glasses- with all the options that are available this season- you are going to be spoilt for choice.
