Summer may be slowly winding down but fashion trends is still on the go. We can’t help but love the trend Ashley Madekwe, Michelle Obama and Vanessa Simmons started up recently – the pleated maxi skirt. Whether you’ll test out this look in a funky colorblock look or in a solid color, we seriously think it’s a trend worth trying!

First Lady Michelle Obama wore a colorblocked Suno Spring/Summer 2011 pleated skirt while out to dinner with husband President Barack Obama at Nancy’s Restaurant. We love how she balanced the look with a black tank top and silver hoop earrings.
Ashley Madekwe, blogger of Ring My Bell and star of the upcoming ABC series Revenge, wore a green American Apparel long accordion-pleat skirt with a white tank at OK! Magazine & Step Up Women’s Network Women Of Music Celebration event.
Vanessa Simmons, actress and co-owner of Pastry, served as a stylish host at the 2011 VH1 Save the Music Awards where she wore a colorblocked pleated maxi, cut-out number.

Love the bold colors! Bridget Awosika is sooo right on with the pleated skirts! Loveeee! Oh my I thot that look on vanessa simmons was from Bridget Awosika when I first saw it too. It looks like something that could have come from her collection. I was scrolling from bottom to top and I was hoping it was the other big full pleated long dress from her collection! Also loveeeeee the Duro Olowu skirt on Michelle. So beautiful and I especially love the length of the skirt.

Love the pleated skirt and these ladies all look fierce! Duro Olowu is my fave, the print and injection of neon is zesty and bold and yet still sophisticated on Michelle, or is that simply the MIchelle factor?! Great post. London’s fashionable ladies have been rocking pleated skirts since beginning of Summer, although we didn’t have much of a summer, which made the pleated maxi the choice de jour! Yes, we’re early with the trends. As summer is officially over in England, good thing I’m in Lagos, where I can wear my pleated brights!
