On my recent trip to Berlin for their S/S 11 Berlin Fashion Week, I couldn’t help but notice that shorts had taken a stronghold over the city. What was interesting to see was how this trend was translated by the fashionistas in the city. The looks ranged from ‘prim & proper tailored lady’ to ‘wild rock child’ proving the versatility of this small scap of material.
I also left Berlin thinking that the women over there had the best pair of pins I had seen in a long time. My only advice to the masses is- shorts can be very unforgiving if you are not blessed with a pair of heavenly pins, so take a good, hard, long look at yours before you attempt this trend and if needsbe get on that treadmill toute de suite!
Here are the looks that made my Short List-
A perfect example of how to mix things up- I love the way she smartened up her raunchy ’lace and leather’ look with the simple addition of a tailored blazer.
Shorts come in all sorts of shapes, sizes- and as these picture suggests- textures. Don’t be afraid to experiment- these fantastic white sequins shorts can see you well into the decadent hours of the night.
Why not kill 3 trends with one stone?Floral print, bold colour and shorts.
If you want to elongate your pins- try pairing them up with sheer or/and patterned tights. I would also go the full nine yards and add on a pair of shoes that take you to dizzying heights.
What I loved about how women dress in Berlin is just how effortlessly cool they looked. Take this girl for example- a true poster child of ‘easy-now chic’. I love the jaunty angle of her hat, the wide neck line of her top which carelessly/artfully shows her vest and bra straps, how she tucked her top in to show her slim brown leather belt- which coincidentally match her smart brown leather briefcase, her bleached denim short shorts and shoe boots. Bravo darling, Bravo!
This look is quite similar to the one before- only this girl is taking a more obvious ‘wild rock chic’ approach to the trend with the ‘messy’ hair, big sunglasses and distressed short shorts. I heart her lace-up shoe boots.
P.s check out the man in the background rocking his own pair of denim shorts!
One trend interpreted in two different ways. The girl on the left, decided to go down the retro route with her long crochet cardi, whilst the girl on the right decided to experiment with layering by donning lycra shorts under her denim short shorts.
And saving the best for last- here is my BF (Nicky Agunwa) showing us how to look Pucci-esque fabulous in a pair of shorts. I love, love LOVE the billowing structure, colour and print of that top- and the addition of the headscarf makes her truly ready to turn heads at any fashion pool party.
